A turtle was spotted swimming in Canal 4, located in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, on Sunday morning (4). The animal appeared in a section near the waterfront around 10 am, attracting the attention of local passersby.
Weather Forecast
The sighting occurred on a hot Sunday in the Baixada Santista region, where Santos could reach up to 30°C throughout the day, according to Climatempo information. However, the weather forecast also indicated changes in climatic conditions, with the possibility of afternoon rain and thunderstorms during the night.
In the footage, the turtle is visible moving through the canal waters and approaching the surface. The exact location of the sighting was a few meters from the sandy area of the beach.
Turtles in Santos
The appearance of sea turtles in the area is not an isolated event. The Municipal Aquarium of Santos receives animals found in weakened condition both on the beaches and in the city's canals, with the goal of treating them and subsequently returning them to the natural environment.
Among the species registered in the region, the green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) stand out. The green turtle, which is one of the most frequently assisted species by the Santos Aquarium, can reach up to 1.40 meters in length and weigh 200 kilograms when adult. Although it spends long periods submerged, this species needs to surface to breathe.
Climate Change After the Heat
Sunday was supposed to signal a change in the weather in Santos. Climatempo predicted a maximum temperature of 30°C, accompanied by increased cloudiness and the occurrence of rain showers during the afternoon. Furthermore, there was a forecast for heavier rains and thunder at night.
This climate change should result in a drop in temperatures. For Monday (5), various meteorological services indicate considerably lower highs and the maintenance of rainy conditions in the region.
