The Chevrolet Spark EUV has been introduced to the Brazilian market as General Motors' new offering in the compact electric vehicle segment. With a price of R$ 155 thousand, this model competes in a category that includes options such as the BYD Dolphin Mini, Geely EX2, and GAC Aion UT. The Spark stands out for its SUV design, reduced dimensions, and low battery consumption, although it presents certain limitations for those seeking a family car.
Chevrolet's presence in the Brazilian electric vehicle market predates this recent expansion. In 2018, the automaker launched the Bolt EV, a period when charging infrastructure was still limited and the costs of electric cars restricted public access. This landscape changed with the arrival of smaller models and the expansion of charging points, especially in larger urban areas.
Performance and Dimensions
Regarding the Spark EUV, its electric motor generates approximately 100 hp and 18 kgfm of torque. This data positions Chevrolet among the main competitors in terms of available power. Comparatively, the Geely EX2 has 15.3 kgfm, while the BYD Dolphin Mini delivers about 13.5 kgfm, and the GAC Aion UT reaches 21.4 kgfm.
In practice, the immediate torque allows for satisfactory acceleration and recovery in city traffic. The maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h, a limit considered more than sufficient for the purpose of the Spark EV, which aims to optimize battery autonomy.
The Spark EUV's measurements are 4.00 m in length and 2.56 m wheelbase. It is smaller than the Geely EX2, which measures 4.13 m, but larger than the Dolphin Mini, with 3.78 m. These dimensions facilitate maneuvering and finding parking spaces, but they impose restrictions on interior space.
The 2.56 m wheelbase accommodates occupants well in the front, but passengers over 1.80 m may face difficulties in the rear seat. Furthermore, the vehicle is configured for only four seats, which reduces versatility for families considering a R$ 155 thousand car.
Cargo Capacity and Interior Finish
In contrast, the trunk is a strong point, offering 354 liters, a capacity superior to some compact SUVs, such as the Jeep Renegade. Part of this volume is achieved through an unfinished lower compartment. The tailgate has a side opening, a feature that can complicate access in narrow places.
Internally, the Spark EUV presents a higher level of finish than seen in certain compact competitors. It features padded upholstery on the dashboard, electric adjustments for the driver's seat, and a more refined presentation. The multimedia center supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but only via wired connection.
The equipment package includes a parking camera, digital climate control, active lane departure monitoring system, and collision warning. However, features such as wireless inductive phone charging and wireless mirroring are missing, which might be expected in a R$ 155 thousand vehicle.
Consumption and Travel Performance
The model's battery has a capacity of 42 kWh. In a test conducted in an urban environment, covering 50 km with three people on board, 10% of the charge was consumed, equivalent to approximately 4.2 kWh. Calculating a fast charge at R$ 2 per kWh, the estimated cost to travel these 50 km would be around R$ 8.
This result demonstrates one of the Spark EUV's greatest advantages: low operating cost. When compared to a combustion engine vehicle fueled by gasoline or ethanol, the energy expenditure per kilometer can be lower, especially when charging occurs at home.
With an estimated range of around 250 km, the Spark EUV is better suited for daily and urban use. For longer trips, the need to plan recharges makes the model less ideal, particularly if the destination infrastructure is limited.
Another aspect evaluated during the test was the suspension, which showed firm behavior and minimizes body oscillations, resulting in a more stable ride. This configuration also gives the Spark EUV a distinct feeling from the softer calibration found in some Chinese compacts.
The main challenge arises when analyzing the price, interior space, and range together. Although the Spark EUV has an appropriate engine for its function, low operating cost, superior finish compared to electric compacts, and a vast assistance network for the segment, it costs R$ 155 thousand, offers only four seats, and has a range of around 250 km. These factors may lead consumers to seek different alternatives.
Additionally, the Chevrolet network represents a positive point in the purchasing decision, especially for customers who value the availability of technical support and dealership distribution. Overall, the Spark EUV focuses on being an urban vehicle, with compact dimensions, adequate performance, and reduced energy cost.
