Iranian freestyle wrestler Younes Emami, competing in the 74 kg weight category, shared his thoughts on the difficulty of the competition and the high level of his opponents, as well as his determination to win gold after his victory at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya.
Emami, who previously won a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, secured his second consecutive Asian Games title through an impressive performance.
He noted that everything went well and he was able to win the gold medal. Emami expressed joy at the opportunity to return home with the gold award and hope that he did not disappoint his family, federation, or people. He emphasized that it was very difficult, and few expected him to win gold, but he managed to achieve this success.
The wrestler also commented on the high level of competition, noting that world champions and many highly rated wrestlers participated in his weight category. He managed to overcome all his opponents and win gold.
The Iranian champion also spoke about his victory over Olympic champion Razambek Jamalov, a match that many observers considered particularly difficult. Emami admitted that many people did not believe he could beat Jamalov, and some were concerned about potential issues in the early rounds. Nevertheless, he managed to perform well from the start and ultimately win the gold medal.
Furthermore, Emami acknowledged that winning two consecutive Asian Games was not his initial goal. When asked about his feelings after winning a second gold at the Asian Games following his triumph in Hangzhou, he replied that honestly, he wasn't thinking about winning two consecutive Asian Games. His focus was entirely on these games in Nagoya, and he aimed to be in top shape, have his best matches, and ultimately win the gold medal.
