Yamaha produces motorcycles inspired by Marvel superhero characters

Yamaha, one of the largest global motorcycle manufacturers and ranked fourth in sales in 2026 by the Motorcycles Data ranking, uses various strategies to maintain its growth, including tradition, quality, organization, and superhero themes.

The Japanese company invests heavily in creating motorcycle models inspired by heroes, with a special focus on Marvel characters. This exclusive initiative by Yamaha Brazil aims to establish a connection with audiences of different age groups and profiles while bringing the brand closer to popular culture. Over seven years, the manufacturer has already introduced eleven thematic variations that have generated great enthusiasm among consumers.

Start of the Yamaha/Marvel Partnership

The journey began in 2019, when the Yamaha/Marvel collaboration was presented through concept bikes displayed at both CCXP and the Two Wheels Show that year. Among the prototypes shown were versions destined for launch, such as the FZ25 Captain Marvel and the MT-03 Iron Man (which was later reformulated for release).

A highlight of these events was an NMax 160 decorated with the Spider-Man theme, which was displayed suspended via web representations. Initially, Yamaha had announced that the partnership would result in five special series, but the first batch available in stores comprised only three models.

Commercial Debut and Initial Releases

The initial commercial launch occurred to celebrate the brand's 50th anniversary in the country. In November 2020, Yamaha made available the Lander Captain America, the Fazer 250 Black Panther, and the Fazer 250 Captain Marvel, all maintaining their original mechanical specifications.

The Lander 250 Captain America featured Steve Rogers' shield engraved on the tank, along with graphics simulating combat damage. The Fazer 250 Black Panther used purple tones on the wheels and fairing, a color symbolizing royalty in the hero's universe, and incorporated the character's technological necklace into the tank's air intake. The Fazer 250 Captain Marvel, in turn, adopted the red, blue, and gold color palette of the uniform, displaying the Star of Hala on the fender, repeated on the tank and air intakes.

The visual modifications involved a modest additional cost: the Lander's price increased from R$ 18,690 (standard version) to R$ 19,290, while the Fazer 250s went from R$ 17,490 to R$ 18,090, representing an increase of R$ 600. Each hero model had a limited run of 600 units.

Subsequently, Yamaha brought these motorcycles to CCXP Worlds, held virtually in December 2020. During the event, a Fazer 250 Black Panther was raffled off among participants of the cosplay contest, in tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman. The collaboration also included a collection of clothing and accessories from the Brazilian brand Piticas.

New Models and Marketing Strategies

In October 2021, the fourth item in the partnership was launched: the MT-03 Iron Man, characterized by a red fairing and gold graphics inspired by the character's armor. The brand integrated the naked bike's LED projector headlight with the reactor present in the heroes' suits. The mechanical set remained identical to that of the standard MT-03, offering a 321 cc engine, 42 hp, 3.0 kgfm of torque, and standard ABS. 480 units were produced, priced at R$ 27,790.

At the end of 2021, the NMax 160 Spider-Man, a concept developed since 2019, was finally released. This strategic decision coincided with the premiere of the movie 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', scheduled for December 17. The scooter had a run of 520 units and arrived in stores in the first half of December. Its design was predominantly red, with details of the spider symbol and webs, and its price of R$ 16,490 was R$ 600 higher than the standard NMax 160 ABS. The 160 cc engine delivered 15.4 hp at 8,000 rpm and 1.4 kgf.m at 6,500 rpm, equipped with dual ABS.

The tactic of synchronizing launches with cinematic premieres was repeated in June 2022. Close to the release of 'Thor: Love and Thunder', which occurred on July 7, Yamaha presented the Fazer FZ25 Thor, the sixth model in the partnership. With a record run of 1,000 units, the bike featured inscriptions in Asgardian runes on the headlight fairing indicating 'Limited Edition', the Mjolnir hammer on the front fender, and blue stripes on the wheel edges. Its 249.5 cc single-cylinder engine produced 20.9 hp and 2.1 kgfm, with a suggested price of R$ 21,999.

Reissues and Return to Marvel

In 2023, instead of introducing new characters, Yamaha opted to reissue the first three models: Lander 250 ABS Captain America, Fazer FZ25 ABS Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. Each returned with a run of 600 units and was available at dealerships in the first half of July. To signal the return, the motorcycles received a commemorative emblem on the headlight fairing.

The values were adjusted compared to 2020: the Lander now costs R$ 24,590 plus shipping, and the Fazer FZ25s are priced at R$ 22,090 plus shipping.

After a three-year hiatus, Yamaha resumed the partnership with Marvel in July 2026. At the Japan Festival 2026, held in São Paulo, the Fazer FZ15 ABS Connected Deadpool and the Crosser Z ABS Wolverine were presented, both with a run of 500 units and pre-sale starting July 10. This time, the partnership expanded beyond the Avengers group.

The Fazer FZ15 Deadpool features graphics inspired by the character's suit, including references to the belt, and maintains all the mechanics of the standard version. Its cost is R$ 23,490 plus shipping, with delivery expected in August. The Crosser Z Wolverine has paintwork reminiscent of claws, mask, the hero's silhouette, and the X-Men's belt, costing R$ 24,990 plus shipping, with deliveries starting in September.

This launch includes a bonus: each buyer receives an exclusive, numbered action figure manufactured by Iron Studios. Both bikes come with a three-year warranty and are part of the Fixed Price Revision program.

According to Yamaha, the partnership, nearing seven years, totals 11 special and limited edition motorcycles, although this number includes the three 2023 reissues. In practice, eight distinct heroes have been represented: Captain America, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Deadpool, and Wolverine.

Hélio Ninomiya, Commercial Executive Director of Yamaha Motor Brazil, confirmed that the objective of this strategy is primarily to attract younger consumers and increase the purchase intent of this segment of the public.
