After tourist influx to the mountains in Nainital, police introduced traffic restrictions after 4:00 PM

Due to long weekends, good weather, and mountain holidays, a stream of tourists has poured in. There is a constant increase in transport pressure towards Nainital, Bhawal, Bhimtal, and Kainti Dham. Over the past day, more than 35 thousand vehicles were recorded in these areas, prompting the Nainital police to implement a new traffic management plan.

Those planning a trip to the mountains in the evening on Saturday or Sunday are advised to check the traffic rules in advance. According to police information, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the movement of vehicles heading from Haldwindi-Katgodam to Nainital, Bhawal, and Bhimtal will be regulated. During this period, priority will be given to vehicles traveling down from the mountains.

This decision by the Nainital police was made considering the increased traffic during the long weekend. The goal is to control long queues and congestion situations on mountain roads. Local residents were also asked not to make unnecessary trips to the mountains between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

According to the new police plan, a one-way traffic scheme will be introduced at the Bhimtal intersection after 5:00 PM. Traffic will be directed downwards from this point to systematically evacuate the flow returning from the mountains. Then, starting at 5:30 PM, traffic towards Nainital will be controlled for approximately three hours.

Due to the long weekend, transport pressure has increased not only on the Nainital-Bhawal route but also towards Bhimtal and Kainti Dham. In this regard, the police will monitor traffic at various points. Local residents and tourists are advised to follow the instructions of the police officers.

Teams from the police, traffic police, RTO, and relevant departments have been deployed to ensure the smooth operation of the traffic system. SSP Nainital Mandjunat TC urged people to avoid trips to the mountains between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM unless strictly necessary.

Considering the large number of pilgrims in Kainti Dham, the police called for the abandonment of private vehicles for travel to the temple. A shuttle service has been organized for pilgrims, departing from Bhimtal Vikas Bhavan, Bhawal Chauraha, and Sanitorium. People were asked to leave their vehicles in designated parking lots and continue their journey via shuttles.

A one-way visitation system has been introduced to control crowds in Kainti Dham. Separate routes have been established for entry and exit. The police appealed to pilgrims to maintain order and use the established routes.

SSP Mandjunat TC requested tourists and pilgrims to use the designated routes, parking lots, and shuttle services. The police stated that teams from all relevant departments would be present on site to maintain the uninterrupted operation of the transport system.

If a trip to the mountains after 4:00 PM is necessary, the police advised using alternative roads. Transport heading to Nainital can use the Kaladungi route, which will help reduce the load on the main Haldwindi-Katgodam route towards Nainital.

For vehicles arriving from Rudrapur, Bajpura, Ramnagar, Kashipur, and Mukhani, the Mukhani–Fatehpur–Patwa Dangar route option has been suggested. Passengers are advised to choose a route depending on their destination and time.

Thus, on Saturday and Sunday, the traffic regime for tourists and local residents heading to the mountains will be changed after 4:00 PM. Following the movement of over 35 thousand vehicles, the police focus is now on controlling traffic going into the mountains and prioritizing transport returning from the mountains. Therefore, before starting the journey, it is essential to familiarize oneself with the route plan, parking, and traffic situation.

Weekend: Mass influx of tourists to the mountains leads to severe traffic jams

Due to the long public holidays, a large number of people are traveling from plains regions to mountainous areas to enjoy their vacation. This has resulted in all major tourist spots, from Himachal Pradesh to Uttarakhand, being overcrowded with tourists.

Because of the huge concentration of vehicles, movement on highways has completely stopped. A multi-kilometer severe traffic jam is observed on the Kalka-Shimla highway in Solan. Additionally, traffic along the Masuri route is extremely slow.

In Uttarakhand, a traffic jam of about seven kilometers has formed on the Joshimath-Badrinath road, creating significant difficulties for travelers.
