English fast bowler Brydon Carse has been sanctioned by the Cricket Regulator for conduct that damaged the game's reputation following an incident late at night in Derby in August.
Carse, who was 31 at the time of the incident, was detained and later released on bail on suspicion of drunken and disorderly behaviour early on August 23rd while out with teammates from the county of Durham.
Later, a video circulating on social media showed him in handcuffs. Although Derby county police began an investigation into an assault related to the same night, that investigation was closed last month without charges being brought.
However, the game's internal oversight body has now charged Carse with breaching Rule 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations.
In a statement, the Cricket Regulator said that 'The matter will be referred to an independent Cricket Disciplinary Panel for consideration. As the process continues, no further comments will be made.'
According to Rule 3.2, 'No participant may behave in any manner, commit or fail to commit any act at any time which is unacceptable or may bring disrepute to the interests of cricket, or which may bring disgrace to the ECB, the game of cricket, or any cricketer or group of cricketers.'
This incident led to Carse's immediate exclusion from England ahead of the second Test against Pakistan, and he has not played for the national team since. Carse, who last played for England during the final Ashes Test against Australia in January, missed the start of the English summer due to injury before returning to help Durham gain promotion to Division One in an undefeated County Championship campaign.
His absence was extended on Thursday when he was dropped from the England squad ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI tour in Pakistan. Discussing Carse's situation last month, England captain Harry Brook stated that the fast bowler needed a break from the game.
Before the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which they won 2-1, Brook said: 'We are very good friends with Carse. I have spoken to him a lot. I think he just needs some time away from the international scene. He is working on several things behind the scenes, and I hope he will be ready at some point in the future.'
