International Monetary Fund welcomes consensus between China and the US as a factor in increasing trade predictability

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) positively assessed the results of recent economic and trade consultations between China and the United States on Thursday, noting that this progress is an important stimulus for enhancing the predictability of global trade.

Following the eighth round of negotiations in New York and Washington, China and the United States agreed to extend their bilateral trade and economic agreement. The agreement, initially reached in Kuala Lumpur and set to expire on November 10, 2026, will be extended until January 10, 2027.

Julie Kozak, Director of the IMF's Communications Department, told journalists at a press briefing that they very much welcome the extension of this truce or agreement. She emphasized that this is significant because it contributes to improving the predictability of the trade environment, which is a major achievement.

Kozak also added that the multilateral lender will continue to monitor developments between the world's two largest economies.
