The K-pop group Stray Kids announced that it will not submit any work to compete in the 2027 Grammy Awards. This news was disclosed by their label, JYP Entertainment, through an official statement sent to the press.
Although a detailed justification was not provided, Stray Kids' decision comes after the implementation of the 'Best Asian Pop Music Performance' category. This new section generated criticism for classifying the genre outside the main categories of the award.
In the statement released on the members' social media, it was declared: 'We have decided not to enter our music in the Grammy this year. We hope the music can be heard and receive love on its own, without being divided by region or language. We thank the ARMYs and everyone who is always with us.'
Grammy introduces new categories
Other notable additions include the 'Best Latin Music' category, which imposes a technical requirement that practically excludes the Brazilian phonographic market from the central competition. The new regulation stipulates that this award must only be given to composers of original works written predominantly in Spanish, requiring at least 51% of the lyrics to be in that language.
The new categories announced by the Grammy are: 'Best Asian Pop Music Performance' (intended for styles such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop); 'Best Latin Music'; 'Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance'; 'Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance', and 'Best Traditional Folk Music Album.'
