Central Bank of Uzbekistan Discussed Development of Securities Market Infrastructure

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of the regulator, the Central Securities Depository, and Nico Stais, an independent member of the Depository's Supervisory Board.

Participants discussed the current transformation of the Central Depository, its development strategy, and priorities aimed at further improving the post-trade settlement infrastructure in the securities market of Uzbekistan.

Nico Stais has nearly thirty years of international experience in securities market services and post-trade operations. He currently heads the asset management function at Clearstream Services, based in Prague and part of the Deutsche Börse Group.

As an independent member of the Supervisory Board, he also contributes to the development of the Central Depository using his professional international experience.

The meeting covered the Depository's current activities and organizational development, as well as infrastructure tasks necessary for the further growth of the securities market. Particular attention was paid to the development of the secondary market, expanding cooperation with international custodian organizations, and improving foreign investors' access to the Uzbek market.

The parties also discussed the development of specific infrastructure projects within a unified and interconnected ecosystem. Nico Stais emphasized the importance of evaluating proposed solutions from an international perspective and considering various operational scenarios at the early stages of their creation.

During the meeting, the need for continuous improvement of post-trade settlement infrastructure to ensure stability and continuity of settlements, as well as effective asset management, was noted. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation and dialogue with Nico Stais regarding the further development of the Central Depository.

Furthermore, the participants exchanged views on the possibilities of strengthening the potential of various economic sectors and further improving the business climate. Issues regarding enhancing Uzbekistan's economic competitiveness and expanding the country's participation in global value chains were also addressed.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue constructive dialogue and increase cooperation to provide comprehensive support for economic reforms. Joint study of new opportunities to ensure long-term, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth in Uzbekistan is planned.

Uzbekistan Discusses Pharmaceutical Industry Development at International Congress

In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the fifth International Congress of Pharma Uzbekistan & Central Asia discussed the prospects for developing the country's pharmaceutical industry, including expanding production and implementing modern technologies.

The event was held with the participation of the Agency for the Development of Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry and gathered over 150 delegates from Central Asia and other countries. Participants included manufacturers, regulators, representatives of international organizations, experts, and investors.

Importance of Quality and Standards

Alisher Temirov, Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety, emphasized the critical importance of ensuring product quality and safety, as well as the need to implement international standards and create modern production facilities during the congress.

According to Temirov, the pharmaceutical industry is undergoing active transformation. The main directions of this process include creating new production sites, modernizing existing enterprises, and integrating advanced technologies and digital solutions.

Participants stressed that patient safety and human health must remain a priority in any new project. The quality, reliability, and effectiveness of medicines were defined as key conditions for the sustainable growth of the pharmaceutical sector.

Reforms and Regulation

The congress also featured discussions on reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan to strengthen the pharmaceutical sector, increase domestic production, attract investment, and introduce innovative methods.

Special attention was paid to improving the regulatory framework governing the circulation of medicines and strengthening control at all stages—from manufacturing to sale. Furthermore, participants discussed the further development of pharmacovigilance and post-registration monitoring systems.

At the conclusion of the congress, participants noted the importance of experience exchange to enhance the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry, expand international cooperation, and form a modern and safe drug production system in the region.
