The Alto Tietê region registered significant growth in formal employment in August 2026, rising from 1,200 to 1,481 positions. This increase corresponds to a 23.42% growth in the balance of formal jobs compared to the same period last year, as disclosed by the General Registry of Employees and Unemployed (Caged).
The job balance is determined by the difference between the number of hires and layoffs. In August of this year, the ten cities comprising Alto Tietê accounted for 17,591 new admissions and 16,110 layoffs. For comparison, in August 2025, there were 17,232 hires and 16,032 layoffs.
Suzano achieved the largest balance within Alto Tietê, totaling 525 positions. This result was reached with 2,969 hires and 2,444 layoffs. It is relevant to note that in August 2025, Suzano had presented a negative balance of 193 jobs.
Mogi das Cruzes followed, with a balance of 507 positions. Despite registering the highest volume of hires in the region, totaling 6,512 admissions, the municipality also recorded 6,005 layoffs, causing its balance to be lower than the 600 positions registered in August of last year.
Itaquaquecetuba showed the third largest balance, with 195 positions, trailing Arujá, which accumulated 161 positions. However, in Itaquaquecetuba, the result compared to August 2025 was a decrease, as that month the city had registered 320 positions, while Arujá saw its balance increase, starting from 104 positions.
Two cities reported more layoffs than hires. Biritiba-Mirim registered 124 admissions against 153 layoffs in August 2026, resulting in a closure of 29 positions. In the previous year, the balance in Biritiba-Mirim was also negative, with 15 lost positions.
In Poá, the difference was 14 fewer positions, with 1,450 hires and 1,464 layoffs. In August 2025, Poá had maintained a positive balance of 353 positions.
Additionally, Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Salesópolis managed to reverse negative balances to positive ones. Ferraz de Vasconcelos went from a closure of 75 positions to opening 66 positions, and Salesópolis transitioned from five closed positions to 21 open positions.
