Uzbekistan and Belarus aim for $2 billion in bilateral trade

The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev, stated that Uzbekistan and Belarus intend to increase bilateral trade to the volume of 2 billion US dollars while expanding cooperation in industrial and agricultural sectors. This statement was made after a meeting in Khiva with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Yuriy Shuleiko.

Khojaev emphasized that it is crucial to maintain the pace of interaction and implement these agreements into concrete projects following the agreements reached by the two countries in July.

Industrial and Agricultural Cooperation

Currently, about 120 industrial cooperation projects are being implemented between Uzbekistan and Belarus. The main areas include electrical engineering and light industry, mechanical engineering, building materials, pharmaceuticals, and other industries.

The parties also discussed joint work in the field of animal husbandry. Entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan have already launched 39 projects in five regions of Belarus. These projects involve the creation of livestock complexes, development of breeding stock, production of animal feed, and the use of agricultural land.

Another area of cooperation discussed at the meeting was organized labor migration. According to Khojaev, a mechanism is being developed to attract specialists from Uzbekistan on a targeted basis, based on the needs of Belarusian enterprises.

Furthermore, the parties considered the possibility of opening a representative office of the Migration Service of Uzbekistan in Minsk. This meeting took place after the signing of agreements aimed at expanding trade and economic partnership between Uzbekistan and Belarus, as well as transitioning from general agreements to the implementation of specific joint projects.

Uzbekistan's textile product exports grew by 26.9% to $2.1 billion

From January to August 2026, Uzbekistan exported textile products worth $2.1 billion, representing a 26.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. These preliminary data were published by the National Statistical Committee.

According to the committee's data, textiles accounted for 9.4% of Uzbekistan's total export volume for the reporting period. Among the exported textile products, finished goods held the largest share at 51.4%, followed by yarn with a share of 32.2%. Additionally, 8% was attributed to knitted fabrics, 6% to fabrics, 2% to socks, and 1% to carpets.

Under the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC), exports in the 'Textile yarn, fabrics, articles and accessories' division reached $1.31 billion, an increase of 24.7%. This segment became the largest in the 'Manufactured goods' section, where total exports reached $3.36 billion, showing a growth of 25.6% and accounting for 14.7% of the total export volume.

Exports of clothing and clothing accessories increased by 25.7%, reaching $848.1 million. Exports of textile fibers and waste amounted to $42.9 million, corresponding to 72.7% of the previous year's level.

Regarding imports, the volume of imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and related goods was $407.4 million, an increase of 9.4%. Clothing imports grew by 21.8% to $98.6 million. Imports of textile fibers and waste reached $53.6 million, which is 83.7% of the previous year's level.

Uzbekistan's total exports for January-August 2026 amounted to $22.9 billion, a decrease of 3.4% compared to the previous year. The total trade turnover in foreign trade for the reporting period reached $57.4 billion, demonstrating a growth of 7.6%, while imports increased by 16.3% to $34.5 billion.
