UAE Ministry of Interior warns residents about investment scams and urges verification of offers

The UAE Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to residents, urging them to remain vigilant against investment and trade fraud schemes. It strongly recommends that people verify the legitimacy of investment platforms before transferring any funds or disclosing personal information.

The Ministry warned that fraudulent investment offers may appear as attractive opportunities for quick or guaranteed returns, but in reality, they are designed to deceive people to seize their money or confidential financial data.

In its warning, the ministry noted: 'This may seem like an opportunity... but it is a scam,' advising the public to exercise caution when encountering investment or trading offers.

Residents are advised to check the license and reliability of any investment or trading platform through the relevant UAE authorities before conducting any transactions. Legitimate platforms never promise guaranteed profits nor do they pressure clients with demands for urgent fund transfers.

Authorities also highlighted several common signs associated with fraudulent messages and advertising in the investment sector. These include claims of 'time-limited offers,' 'guaranteed profits,' or other phrasing intended to create a sense of urgency and prompt people to transfer money without properly vetting the platform.

Before making any decision to invest or trade, residents are recommended to independently verify whether the company or platform holds a proper license to provide financial or investment services in the UAE.

This warning followed a similar alert issued by Dubai Police in April regarding fraudulent investment schemes spread across digital platforms and social media.

In July, the UAE Ministry of Interior highlighted several red flags that may indicate investment or trade fraud, and provided guidance to help residents identify potentially dishonest offers.

One key sign is pressure for immediate investment, where scammers create a sense of urgency to prevent potential victims from taking time to study and verify the opportunity. Another warning sign is the lack of clear information about the company's operations or how it generates profit. Legitimate investment opportunities should provide clear and verifiable details about the business and its functioning.

Requests for personal, banking, or financial information should also raise concerns, especially if such information is requested through unverified websites, links, messages, or social media accounts. Finally, residents should be wary of any investment company or platform whose license or physical location cannot be independently verified through the relevant UAE authorities.

Officials continue to intensify awareness efforts to protect residents from financial scams, urging them to remain vigilant, verify investment opportunities, and avoid engaging with suspicious offers or unverified platforms.

Ministry of Human Resources warns UAE residents about deepfake scams impersonating officials

Residents of the United Arab Emirates have received a warning about the growing risk of scams related to deepfake technology. Scammers are creating fake videos, audio recordings, and images that appear to originate from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre).

The Ministry strongly recommends that people do not rely on the convincing appearance or sound of a video or voice message to consider it authentic. Perpetrators may use deepfake technology to impersonate Mohre employees or officials to deceive people into revealing personal information, clicking on malicious links, or transferring money.

To protect data and finances from fraudulent attempts, the Ministry has shared several important tips and checks that UAE residents should keep in mind.

How scammers can use deepfakes

According to Mohre, scammers are capable of generating:

  • Fake videos
  • Audio recordings
  • Images

These materials can be designed to look as if they were sent by the ministry itself or one of its employees. The messages may contain urgent demands or announcements intended to prompt recipients to act immediately—for example, sharing confidential information or making a payment.

How to protect yourself

The Ministry advised residents to take several precautions when receiving an unexpected video, voice message, or request supposedly from Mohre. The following rules must be observed:

  • Do not trust a video or voice message solely based on its realism.
  • Verify any request or announcement through official Mohre channels.
  • Never provide personal or banking information in response to unverified messages or calls.
  • Always check links before clicking on them.

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasized that if there is any doubt, one should refrain from responding to the request and contact the Mohre Contact Center to confirm the authenticity of the message or the identity of the Ministry representative. The Ministry reminded that new and developing technologies can imitate voices and faces, but the most reliable way to protect personal data and funds from fraud is verification through official channels.
