Reliance Industries head Anant M Ambani announced that the company plans to invest 1 trillion rupees in the state of Andhra Pradesh. These funds will be directed towards establishing Compressed Biogas (CBG) production plants, which will create over three hundred thousand jobs and bring approximately 60,000 crore rupees in revenue to the state over the next few decades.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Rayalaseema Agricultural Centre and the Indian Agricultural School in Madanapalle, Ambani emphasized that this investment will support the state's transition to cleaner energy and open up new opportunities for farmers.
He noted that farmers, who ensure India's food security, will now also strengthen the country's energy security, contributing to India's self-sufficiency in the energy sector. Reliance Industries expressed gratitude to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the opportunity to invest 1 trillion rupees in the state for the construction of CBG plants.
CBG is a renewable fuel obtained by processing organic waste, such as agricultural residues, animal manure, food waste, and other biomass, into methane-containing gas. This gas can serve as a cleaner alternative to traditional natural gas in transport, industry, and the commercial sector.
In addition to reducing emissions and waste, CBG helps decrease dependence on imported fossil fuels, creates new markets for organic and agricultural waste, generates rural jobs and income, and supports a more circular economy by converting waste into energy and nutrient-rich biofertilizers.
Ambani also mentioned that Reliance is investing in clean energy projects in Rayalaseema and exploring possibilities in advanced manufacturing. He cited state government data indicating that since June 2024, 388 mega-projects with investment commitments exceeding 14 trillion rupees have been approved in Andhra Pradesh, with the potential to create nearly 1.1 million jobs. Approximately one-third of these investments are directed to the Rayalaseema region.
The group head stated that Reliance will continue to support the Indian Agricultural School through strategic investments, digital capabilities, technical expertise, and industry partnerships. Addressing Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Ambani asked him to consider him as a son of Andhra Pradesh, stating that they are laying the foundations for rural entrepreneurship, stronger villages, and a sustainable India.
The proposed agricultural centre, which will be supported by an investment of 40,000 crore rupees, aims to promote technology-driven agriculture in the Rayalaseema region. Ambani stressed that the Rayalaseema Agricultural Centre marks the dawn of India's growth in this region.
The Indian Agricultural School will integrate artificial intelligence and modern technologies with traditional farming knowledge, including applications such as pest forecasting, drone crop monitoring, precision irrigation, robotics, and price analysis. Ambani noted that in this School, artificial intelligence will meet the traditional intelligence of hardworking Indian farmers.
Furthermore, Ambani announced that Jio from Reliance will collaborate with the Indian Agricultural School to deliver its curricula to millions of farmers in local languages through virtual classes in villages. Rural youth will be able to train as digital consultants. Jio has developed the Jio Krishi platform offering products for farmers, and Reliance has established a bioenergy development research center in Jamnagar.
Anant Ambani also stated Reliance's intention to explore collaboration between the Indian Agricultural School and the proposed Vantara University for wildlife and veterinary sciences. This initiative could make agriculture a more attractive career for young Indians, providing them access to technology, skills, and entrepreneurial opportunities in their home villages.
