Nvidia shares reached a new record this Friday (2), marking an upward streak that had not occurred since May. The company's appreciation is attributed to investments made and positive results obtained in the field of artificial intelligence, boosting its shares by 2.9% on the day, according to Bloomberg.
With this performance, the company's market value is approaching the $6 trillion mark, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 31.4 trillion at the direct exchange rate. In May, Nvidia reported a profit of $58.3 billion in its first fiscal quarter of 2026, which ended on April 26. This profit represented a significant increase of 211% compared to the same period last year.
According to Bloomberg, the growth of the chip manufacturer's shares is correlated with the market optimism generated by Muse AI, a new artificial intelligence agent developed by Meta, owner of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Muse was launched in early September and functions as an AI assistant capable of performing actions on behalf of users, accessing data in email, calendar, payment, health, shopping, and smart home applications.
Nvidia's role in the market
Nvidia is responsible for manufacturing essential chips for training artificial intelligence models, such as ChatGPT, which require great computational power. Technology giants, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, and Spotify, are among its clients. The company holds about 80% of the high-end AI chip market, according to Reuters.
Among its most relevant products in this segment are the H100 and A100 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Furthermore, Nvidia introduced Blackwell (B100), its latest generation, characterized by greater capacity, performance, and efficiency, aiming to surpass the performance of the H100.
Although chip manufacturing goes beyond AI, Nvidia also produces versions of these components for personal computers, which is crucial for gaming, a sector where the company gained global notoriety. The main product, the H100, is the most demanded chip in the sector and has a cost reaching tens of thousands of dollars per unit. The specialized company TrendForce points out that ChatGPT requires about 30,000 GPUs to operate.
Elon Musk made an ironic comment in 2023 during an event organized by the Wall Street Journal, comparing the difficulty of finding GPUs to the scarcity of drugs. It is important to note that although Nvidia designs its processors, it outsources manufacturing, just like AMD and Apple. Most of its production is carried out by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, which is globally recognized in this sector. The AI infrastructure also depends on numerous Taiwanese companies, large and small, that provide the technical knowledge and components necessary for Nvidia's complex AI systems.
