Philosopher explains the link between ethics and artificial intelligence for the ENEM exam

Philosophy Professor Adriano Silveira details in a new video lesson from Lá Vem o Enem how the topics of ethics and artificial intelligence can be addressed in the exam. The main objective is to establish a connection between the application of this technology and the ideas of Aristotle, Kant, and Hans Jonas, allowing for the analysis of human choices and their consequences.

During the class, Adriano emphasizes that Aristotle offers a foundation for ethics based on human conduct, linking the concept of phronesis to the capacity for discernment and decision-making. In contrast, artificial intelligence is associated with the concept of technē, which refers to know-how.

The professor warns that when analyzing Aristotelian wisdom, which implies wise action in decision-making, what is observed in artificial intelligence are algorithms, numbers, and statistics.

Furthermore, he presents Kant's perspective, according to which actions must always treat humanity as an end in itself and never merely as a means. To illustrate this point, examples such as the use of AI in military drones to identify targets or in automatic resume screening are cited.

Finally, Adriano connects the environmental impact generated by the technology, specifically the water consumption of servers, with the teachings of Hans Jonas.
