Researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine, including Kalpana Gupta, together with colleagues from GSK, conducted post-marketing clinical trials. These studies showed that the use of hepotidacin contributes to the prompt reduction of signs of uncomplicated urinary tract infections, or acute cystitis, in women.
Ninety patients aged 12 and older participated in the open, non-randomized Phase 3b trials. The study was conducted in 21 medical institutions across the United States. The patients presented with two or more symptoms of uncomplicated urinary tract infection, as well as positive results for nitrites in urine or pyuria. The median age of the participants was 46.1 years.
All participants were prescribed a course of hepotidacin at a dosage of 1.5 grams twice daily for five days. The resulting data were published in the journal JAMA Network Open.
