Doctors in Jaipur successfully perform complex surgery to remove 28.6-kilogram tumor from woman's abdomen

At Sawai Mansingh Hospital (SMS) in the capital of Rajasthan state, Jaipur, doctors managed to perform an extremely complex and rare surgical operation. A massive tumor weighing 28.6 kilograms was removed from the abdomen of a 59-year-old woman. This high-risk operation, which lasted about three hours, required exceptional caution from the doctors to preserve the woman's vital organs and blood vessels.

The tumor was so large that it was adjacent to the intestines, liver, pancreas, bladder, and major arteries. The medical team performed the operation with exceptional meticulousness and successfully extracted the giant tumor. After the operation, the woman was placed in the intensive care unit, where her condition is currently stable, and recovery is assessed as satisfactory.

An important aspect of this case is that such a complex operation was performed free of charge under the Rajasthan government's RGHS program. The woman had been suffering from a growing abdominal tumor for approximately three years. Initially, the enlargement of the abdominal mass caused concern, but over time, the tumor continued to grow, hindering her ability to lead a normal life, including mobility.

The family sought help at many medical institutions, but due to the unusual size of the tumor and the serious risks associated with the surgery, doctors avoided intervention. As the tumor grew, the woman's problems worsened. Eventually, she arrived at Sawai Mansingh Hospital in Jaipur, where the presence of a giant retroperitoneal tumor weighing 28.6 kg was discovered. After consulting with the oncology department, the doctors assessed the patient's condition and the risks of the operation, deciding to proceed with the complex surgical procedure.

The team of doctors, led by Dr. Jivan Kankaria, carried out this operation. The main difficulty during the operation was the location of the tumor and the surrounding vital organs. The ureter was located in front of the giant tumor, and separating it from the tumor while maintaining its integrity was an extremely challenging task. Furthermore, the tumor was attached to the intestines, liver, pancreas, bladder, and major arteries of the body. Any mistake during the operation could have led to serious complications.

The doctors had to simultaneously completely remove the tumor and protect the neighboring vital organs and blood vessels from damage. Over the three hours of the operation, the doctors acted with extreme caution, dissecting the tumor while considering the position of each organ and blood vessel. In the end, the team succeeded, and the giant 28.6-kilogram tumor was removed from the woman's body. In such operations, not only the size of the tumor but also its connection to surrounding organs is critically important, which was the main problem at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.

After the completion of the operation, the woman was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit, where the medical team continuously monitored her condition. Monitoring the patient's condition after such a massive and risky operation was extremely necessary. According to hospital data, the woman's condition remained stable after the operation. Once her recovery was deemed satisfactory, she was moved from the intensive care unit to a regular ward. Now that the tumor, which had affected the woman's daily life for three years, has been successfully removed, there is hope for improvement in her health. Her recovery continues under medical supervision.

Another feature of this case is that the complex operation to remove a tumor weighing about 28.6 kg was performed free of charge under the Rajasthan Government's Healthcare Program (RGHS). This program provides certain medical services to beneficiaries. The woman's operation was also carried out under this scheme, relieving the financial burden of treatment from the family. This operation at SMS Hospital once again demonstrated the availability of specialized medical services and the capability to perform complex surgeries in government hospitals.

Many doctors and medical staff participated in the successful execution of this complex operation. The surgical team was headed by Dr. Jivan Kankaria. He was joined by Dr. Devendra Sani, Dr. Garima, Dr. Ashima, Dr. Gitansh, Dr. Akash, Dr. Devansh, Dr. Rajat, and Dr. Himanshu. The anesthesia team included Dr. Sushil Bhati, Dr. Sunil Chauhan, Dr. Kanchan, Dr. Dindiyadai, and Dr. Divya Bhatnagar. Medical personnel Yunus Ali also played an important role. Thanks to the combined efforts of doctors and support staff, this high-risk operation was successfully completed. The woman's condition is currently stable, and she is being monitored at the hospital.
