FRAM launches campaign to raise awareness about the risks of burning in the Amazon

The Amazon Network Foundation (FRAM) has launched the institutional campaign called Clean Awareness Burning, aiming to increase public perception of the dangers caused by fires, both in urban and rural environments, in the Amazon. This action demonstrates how daily actions can help prevent fires and conserve the environment.

The launch occurs at a time of climate vigilance in the region. According to the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the El Niño phenomenon is forecast for 2026 and may result in a hotter and drier period in the Amazon. The agency's latest report indicates a 95% probability of the phenomenon reaching very strong intensity between October and December.

With reduced rainfall and drier vegetation, fire finds ideal conditions to spread. For this reason, the campaign emphasizes that a small flame can evolve into a large fire, especially when fire is used for clearing land or burning leaves and trash near green areas.

Special attention in Amazonas

The scenario also requires specific attention in Amazonas. Historical data provided by INPE's Burning Project reveals that 35.3% of the peak burning incidents recorded in the state between 2010 and 2026 occurred during September. This data underscores the need to maintain preventive care even after periods traditionally considered high-risk for fires.

The campaign offers guidelines to the population, advising them not to use fire to clear properties, not to burn leaves or trash in vegetated areas, to dispose of waste properly, and to avoid accumulating dry materials. The objective is to illustrate that simple measures can reduce the occurrence of fires and their impacts on communities and the environment.

Anderson Mendes, Content Manager at the Amazon Network Foundation, explained that the initiative aims to make the topic closer to people's lives. He stated that the campaign seeks to show that a seemingly simple action, such as setting fire to land or burning trash, can lead to much more serious consequences, reinforcing that prevention lies in daily choices.

The phrase 'Don't let the green give way to ashes' summarizes the campaign's proposal, reiterating that prevention starts with modest attitudes. The initiative seeks to encourage the adoption of safer practices and remind that preventing the use of fire is a way to care for the Amazon. The campaign also counts on the support of Tree Earth, which joins the effort to mobilize for forest preservation and environmental awareness.

The Amazon Network Foundation operates as the institutional arm of the Amazon Network Group and has over four decades of activity in the states of Rondônia, Roraima, Acre, Amapá, and Amazonas, promoting actions focused on the social, cultural, educational, and environmental development of the region, organizing its work into three pillars: Art, Culture, and Education; Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Social Development and Sustainability.
