Sputnik reports that after the ninth day of the Asian Games in Yokohama, Uzbekistan secured fourth place with a total of 42 medals. The final day of the competition was marked by numerous records and bright moments.
As of September 29, the Uzbek delegation won 12 gold, 17 silver, and 13 bronze medals, which secured them fourth place overall. On September 28, Uzbek athletes added four more awards.
In the wrestling competition, Pokizakhon Kamoliddinova became champion in the women's category up to 78 kilograms, while Akhror Ziyodullaev won gold in the men's category up to 81 kilograms. Shohista Nazarova received a bronze medal in the under-78 kilograms category. In athletics, Anvar Anvarov won bronze by running the long jump distance of 8.06 meters.
After nine days of competition, China leads by a large margin, having collected 132 gold, 53 silver, and 45 bronze medals, totaling 230 awards. The host country, Japan, is in second place with 41 gold, 68 silver, and 63 bronze medals. South Korea holds third place with 21 gold, 26 silver, and 43 bronze medals. Uzbekistan maintains fourth place thanks to 12 gold medals. Although Kazakhstan has a higher total number of medals than Uzbekistan—45 pieces—the country is in fifth place with 9 golds.
The athletics competitions on September 28 were remembered for a series of records. Winfred Yavi from Bahrain won the 5000-meter race, securing the third gold medal at these Games. He had previously also been champion in the 10,000-meter and 3000-meter distances. Yavi became the first athlete in Asian Games history to win all three disciplines in one meeting.
On the same day, three Asian Games records were set in athletics. Mariam Karim from BAA set a record by running the women's 400-meter hurdles in 54.31 seconds. Japanese runner Ryuji Miura renewed the previous record by running the 3000-meter hurdles in 8 minutes and 17.36 seconds. His teammate Kazuto Iizawa broke the 16 Asian Games record by finishing the 1500-meter race in 3 minutes and 36.35 seconds.
17-year-old Shin Ohashi set a world record by swimming the 200-meter freestyle in 2 minutes and 4.83 seconds. He became the first athlete in history to cover this distance faster than 2 minutes and 5 seconds. The Asian Games in Yokohama-2026 will continue until October 4.
