The Proteas team is preparing for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, having a clear understanding of their path in Group B following the draw. South Africa plans to host the flagship one-day international tournament for the first time since 2003.
Captain of the Home World Cup
The ODI captain of the team, Temba Bavuma, will lead Proteas at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. South Africa, as part of Group B, will play against New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and one qualifying team.
Proteas' campaign begins on October 9, 2027, at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, where they will face New Zealand. After this, the team will travel to Boland Park in Paarl to play the qualifying nation on October 13. A major match against England is scheduled for October 16 at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
Subsequently, South Africa will meet Bangladesh at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on October 19, concluding the group stage with a match against Sri Lanka at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on October 22.
Group A features defending champions Australia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, co-hosts Zimbabwe, and one qualifying team. The tournament officially kicks off on October 2, 2027, in Windhoek, Namibia, where the three lowest-ranked teams compete for the last spot in the main draw. Group A matches begin on October 7 in Cape Town, when Australia plays India in a replay of the 2023 final in Ahmedabad.
According to the tournament format, the top three teams from Group A and Group B, along with the best fourth-placed team from both groups, will advance to the Super 7 stage to fight for semi-final spots.
