Piauí recorded a honey production of 8,560 tons in 2025, which positioned it as the third largest producer in Brazil, according to data from the Municipal Livestock Survey (PPM), conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In the previous two years, specifically in 2023 and 2024, the state held the second position in the national ranking.
According to the IBGE, the drop in the ranking was motivated by the decrease in the quantity produced. In 2023, Piauí obtained 8,829.8 tons, and in 2024, it reached 8,609 tons, representing a reduction of 2.5%. Compared to 2024, the 2025 production showed a slight decrease of 0.63%.
In addition to the decline observed in the last two years, the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná registered increases in their respective productions, allowing them to solidify their positions at the top of the national ranking.
Regarding economic value, honey production in Brazil moved an amount of R$ 1.2 billion. Among the states, Paraná led in value with R$ 217.7 million. Next came Rio Grande do Sul, with R$ 156.6 million, and Piauí registered R$ 116.8 million.
In 2025, two municipalities in Piauí were among the ten largest honey producers in the country. São Raimundo Nonato, with a production of 897.4 tons, occupied the fourth position, while Picos, with 724 tons, secured the tenth spot.
The survey conducted by the IBGE accounted for honey production in 146 municipalities in Piauí. It is relevant to note that the ten municipalities with the highest production volume are responsible for almost half of the state's total production.
