In honor of World Coffee Day, celebrated on Thursday (the 1st), cafes in Santos are offering drinks that go beyond traditional espresso. Baristas are experimenting by mixing coffee with ingredients such as coconut, whiskey, and spices.
The website g1 compiled various options, including cold and creamy beverages and reinterpretations of classic recipes.
Coffee with Coconut
One of the offerings is Coconut Coffee from Georgia Café. This drink is served chilled and includes coffee, condensed milk, ground dried milk, cream, coconut milk, and coconut syrup. The preparation makes the drink creamier and sweeter, while also giving it a characteristic coconut flavor. The price of this drink is 29 reais, and it can be found at Avenida General San Martin, 72, in Ponta da Praia.
Coffee with a hint of salt
Another original combination at Georgia Café is Salt Coffee. It mixes espresso, cream, condensed milk, ground dried milk, caramel syrup, and salt. The concept of this drink combines the sweetness of caramel and creamy components with a salty accent, and it costs 25 reais.
For spice lovers, coffee made from espresso, almond cream, honey, whipped milk, ginger, and cardamom is available at the same coffee shop for 29 reais.
Coffee with whiskey
Those who prefer alcoholic beverages can try Café com Whisky, also from Georgia Café. The recipe includes espresso, whiskey, brown sugar, and chantilly cream. This drink costs 36 reais and combines the intensity of coffee with whiskey, as well as the sweetness of brown sugar and chantilly cream.
In addition to these options, the menu also features hot chocolate with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger, which costs 25 reais.
The menu includes options with coconut, cinnamon, spices, and other additions.
Coffee with chocolate
At the pastry shop Dona Flor Doceria in Santos, Chocafé is a mixture of coffee, chocolate liqueur, chocolate ice cream, and chantilly cream. This combination plays on the contrast between a hot drink and ice cream. Chocafé costs 19.90 reais in small size and 26 reais in large. The pastry shop also offers cakes, pies with ice cream, romcabole, sweets, homemade pies, snacks, and premium line products. It can be found at Rua Oswaldo Cruz, 319, Boqueirão, Santos.
Traditional Viennese
Revo Manufactory presents a reinterpretation of the classic 90s drink—Viena. In the establishment's version, the traditional chantilly cream is replaced with vanilla cream, accompanied by a fresh vanilla pod. This drink costs 23 reais and is suitable for those who like coffee with a creamier texture and a pronounced vanilla aroma. The cafe is located at Avenida Doutor Epitácio Pessoa, 737, Ponta da Praia, Santos.
More combinations
Revo also works with various brewing methods and combinations. Among the offerings are espresso, filter coffee, cappuccino, latte, flat white, vanilla latte, macchiato, and cold brew. For those who prefer other drinks, espresso tonic with bay orange, matcha latte, and milk coffee are also available, in addition to Vienna at Revo, made from espresso, whole milk, heavy cream, and caramel. Prices vary depending on the drink and range from 9 to 27 reais.
Besides traditional coffee, Chocafé is also available.
Why is coffee so important to Santos?
The history of coffee is closely linked to the economic and urban development of Santos. This product stimulated port activity and helped turn the city into one of the country's main coffee export centers.
This history can be learned at the Coffee Museum, located in the Historic Center. The museum is preparing for an update and plans to open a permanent exhibition titled 'Why do we drink coffee?' in 2027, marking the 300th anniversary of coffee's arrival in Brazil. While the new project is under development, the museum continues its operations, and entry has been free since September 28. The space also offers cultural and educational programs, as well as workshops, courses, and tastings.
Those who wish to learn more about the tastes and characteristics of coffee can participate in a tasting organized by the Coffee Museum. This activity costs 20 reais, and tickets are sold at the museum's ticket office. The museum is located at Rua XV de Novembro, 95, in the Historic Center of Santos.
