National Institute of Meteorology forecasts storms in Southern Piauí until Sunday (4)

Southern Piauí is expected to receive intense rainfall and strong winds between Friday (2) and Sunday (4), according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Additionally, there is an alert regarding the possibility of low air humidity in much of the state.

Eighteen municipalities were placed under yellow alert due to the risk of storms on Saturday (3). Meteorologist Sônia Feitosa explained that the high heat generated by the B-R-O Bró can warm and humidify the air, which favors the formation of these weather events.

Sônia detailed that, in the southernmost part of the state, considerable rainfall is expected during the weekend, which may occur in the form of electrical discharges, stronger winds, or hail.

Rainfall Forecast and Risks

The warnings indicate the possibility of up to 50 mm of daily precipitation, wind gusts reaching 60 km/h, and hail. There is also a minor risk of electricity supply interruptions, falling tree branches, and floods.

Specialist Sônia emphasized that high temperatures and low humidity are expected to persist in the coming days. She added that this situation is typical of the beginning of the rainy season, occurring after very hot days with humidity present, and that humidity tends to stabilize after these rains.

Below is the list of municipalities under yellow alert for storms: Baixa Grande do Ribeiro, Barreiras do Piauí, Bom Jesus, Corrente, Cristalândia do Piauí, Curimatá, Currais, Gilbués, Júlio Borges, Monte Alegre do Piauí, Palmeira do Piauí, Parnaguá, Redenção do Gurguéia, Riacho Frio, Ribeiro Gonçalves, Santa Filomena, São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, and Sebastião Barros.

Low Humidity Alert

On Thursday (1st), the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a statement warning about low humidity in 201 localities of Piauí. This notice is valid from 9 am to 11:59 pm, a period when relative air humidity may fluctuate between 20% and 30% in the affected areas.

According to Inmet, this alert is classified as potential danger, as it can increase the risk of forest fires and cause health problems, such as skin dryness and respiratory discomfort. Among the mentioned municipalities are Teresina, Caracol, and São Raimundo Nonato.
