The Mother of God Festival is celebrating its twentieth edition this year. The event will begin this Thursday, the 1st, and run until October 12th in the city of Teresina. The theme chosen for this celebration is 'Mother Aparecida guides us to the Word, source of mission.'
In 2019, the Municipal Chamber of Teresina granted recognition to the Mother of God Festival, classifying it as Historical, Cultural, Religious, and Intangible Heritage of the municipality. The original idea for this festival was conceived by the then Archbishop of Teresina, Dom Celso José Pinto.
On the first day of the program, the pilgrim image of Our Lady Aparecida will be taken to the São Raimundo Nonato Parish, located in the Piçarra neighborhood. In the following days, the image will visit various communities and parishes belonging to the Archdiocese of Teresina. The festivities will conclude with a mass and a procession in Praça Saraiva, located in the city center.
