Central Bank of Uzbekistan and World Bank Discussed Development of Statistical System

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank led by Haishan Fu, Chief Statistician of the World Bank Group and Director of the Development Data Group.

The parties discussed the Central Bank's participation in the implementation of the National Strategy 'Statistics Development – 2030' and defined priorities for creating a modern, reliable, and integrated national statistical system.

During the meeting, information was presented on strengthening the statistical activities of the Central Bank at both institutional and technological levels. It was noted that the Department of Statistics and Balance of Payments was established in 2026, integrating monetary and financial statistics, balance of payments statistics, digitalization of statistical processes, and methodological improvement.

Currently, the Central Bank is developing a medium-term strategy for statistical development while continuing work on the automation and digitalization of statistical procedures.

Participants paid special attention to ensuring consistency between national accounts, monetary and financial statistics, as well as external sector statistics. The application of common definitions, classifications, and metadata, regular coordination of key macroeconomic indicators, and harmonization of data revision processes were discussed.

Furthermore, the parties reviewed preparations for transitioning to updated international standards, including the System of National Accounts 2025 (SNA 2025) and the Balance of Payments and International Investment Guidelines (BPM7, 2025).

Issues of interdepartmental information exchange, improving data governance mechanisms, and requirements for the quality and confidentiality of statistical information were also addressed at the meeting.

Alisher Temirov, Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety, emphasized the critical importance of ensuring product quality and safety, as well as the need to implement international standards and create modern production facilities during the congress.

According to Temirov, the pharmaceutical industry is undergoing active transformation. The main directions of this process include creating new production sites, modernizing existing enterprises, and integrating advanced technologies and digital solutions.

Participants stressed that patient safety and human health must remain a priority in any new project. The quality, reliability, and effectiveness of medicines were defined as key conditions for the sustainable growth of the pharmaceutical sector.

Reforms and Regulation

The congress also featured discussions on reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan to strengthen the pharmaceutical sector, increase domestic production, attract investment, and introduce innovative methods.

Special attention was paid to improving the regulatory framework governing the circulation of medicines and strengthening control at all stages—from manufacturing to sale. Furthermore, participants discussed the further development of pharmacovigilance and post-registration monitoring systems.

At the conclusion of the congress, participants noted the importance of experience exchange to enhance the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry, expand international cooperation, and form a modern and safe drug production system in the region.

Uzbekistan and South Korea Discuss Development of Digital Government and AI Data Hub

Jamol Makhsudov, Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, and Jakhongir Rajabov, Executive Director of IT Park Uzbekistan, held a meeting with representatives of the National Information Society of South Korea (NIA), according to the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan.

The parties discussed cooperation opportunities in the fields of e-government, data infrastructure, and the digital transformation of public services in Uzbekistan. Special attention was paid to creating an Artificial Intelligence Data Hub—a platform designed for AI-based solutions.

The participants reviewed issues regarding the formation of datasets necessary for training artificial intelligence models. Following the discussion, the parties agreed to continue working on potential areas of cooperation within the framework of the AI Data Hub project, including experience exchange and attracting NIA's expertise in creating such platforms, preparing datasets, and building the necessary infrastructure.

Furthermore, the format and scope of expert support that NIA will provide during the implementation of this project in Uzbekistan will be examined in detail.

The National Information Society (NIA) is a South Korean government agency specializing in information and communication technologies and digital transformation. It was established in 1987 and implements projects in the fields of AI, digital government, data, ICT infrastructure, and digital education. In 2025, through its AI Hub platform, NIA provided approximately 1.18 billion units of public data for the development and training of artificial intelligence models.
