Uzbekistan Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov outlined priorities for the development of the Middle Corridor

The Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilhom Makhkamov, presented the main directions of work for developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, also known as the Middle Corridor, as well as for increasing its efficiency.

Speaking at the conference on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, Makhkamov emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan, the European Union, and international financial institutions. He noted the need to attract international investment to create a safe, efficient, and competitive route between Europe and Asia.

According to Makhkamov, the sustainable development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor involves integrating railway and road infrastructure into a single system, with modern logistics infrastructure playing a key role in this process.

Uzbekistan is actively expanding its network of logistics centers and warehouses, striving to strengthen its position as a major regional transit hub.

The Minister also highlighted several implemented infrastructure projects. Among them are the construction of an Uzbek terminal in Georgian ports, the creation of a joint venture with Azerbaijani partners to increase cargo capacity in the Caspian Sea, the acquisition of new cargo ships, and the expansion of the range of services provided.

Carriers and businesses have gained additional opportunities through the introduction of 70% discounts on rail transport along the CASCA+ multimodal route.

Makhkamov stated that 'a modern transport corridor is not just about quality roads. Above all, it is about prompt decision-making and the absence of barriers.'

Furthermore, the minister pointed out that further digitalization of customs and transport procedures, strengthening regional integration, utilizing international experience, and activating interaction with the private sector remain important conditions for increasing the competitiveness and efficiency of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.
