Director Mirzapur comments on the impact of the film 'Hanuman ANS' on box office revenue

The appearance of the film 'Hanuman ANS' has become an unexpected competitor to 'Mirzapur: The Movie' at the box office. This spiritual drama film suddenly became a hit in cinemas, and the increase in its screening sessions raised the question of whether it affected the performance of 'Mirzapur'.

However, director Gurmit Singh believes that both films are fundamentally different and have the right to attract their own audience. In an exclusive interview with 'India Today', Gurmit stated that this is a common occurrence because many large-budget films were released at the time that did not succeed. He noted that there is always room for a good product and called this a favorable moment for the industry.

The filmmaker also shared a personal reason for his joy over the success of 'Hanuman ANS'. He mentioned that he knows director Vishal Chaturvedi well, with whom they previously worked on projects that did not receive such wide attention in theaters. Gurmit congratulated Vishal and his team, noting that their work is memorable and will be remembered for years, recalling their joint work on two videos in 2013.

For Gurmit, the simultaneous success of both films demonstrates the diversity of the audience. 'Hanuman ANS' is based on spirituality and faith, while 'Mirzapur' immerses viewers in a dark world of crime, violence, and morally complex characters. Singh emphasized that the films are completely different: one teaches the spiritual path and faith in a better life, while the other shows the dark side of the world. He humorously advised the audience to follow the characters of 'Hanuman ANS' rather than the heroes of 'Mirzapur'.

For the 'Mirzapur' team, the journey from streaming to the big screen was long. The franchise first appeared on Prime Video in 2018 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon due to its characters, dialogues, and brutal world, winning its own audience. Gurmit admitted that the team never expected such a scale for 'Mirzapur'.

When asked if the celebration of the film's success was over, the director laughed and replied that it was not. He compared 'Mirzapur' to a hurricane and a picnic that constantly improves after 2018. Regarding the future of the franchise, Gurmit believes that 'Mirzapur' will continue to appear. He described it as a puzzle with many moving parts that all stakeholders will pay attention to. Although they have big plans, he refrains from any commitments to avoid misunderstandings among all stakeholders, but promises the audience that 'Mirzapur' will return soon.
