What is the Voynich Manuscript and why is it impossible to decipher

The Voynich Manuscript is a medieval codex whose origin and history remain a mystery. It is written in an unknown language using a fictional alphabet, and it may not contain any real text at all.

The first confirmed owner of this artifact was Georg Baresch, an alchemist who lived in Prague in the 17th century. However, radiocarbon dating suggests that it was likely created in the early 15th century. Analysis of the style and paint used indicates similarities to works produced in Italy during the Renaissance era. In 1912, it was acquired by collector Wilfrid Voynich, from whom it derives its name; today it is housed at Yale University in the USA.

This manuscript consists of 240 pages containing handwritten texts executed with about 20 unknown symbols that resemble a real alphabet. It features illustrations of non-existent plants and herbs, mysterious astronomical diagrams and planetary maps, as well as figures of women in unusual scenes (resembling baths connected by pipes and plumbing).

Historians, linguists, artists, and cryptanalysts have studied it, but no one has been able to understand the meaning of its content. The distribution of symbols appears logical, like in real texts, rather than random. There is a possibility that the text was written in a real language and then transcribed using a fictional alphabet, or that the language itself was constructed.

In recent years, researchers have attempted to use artificial intelligence to decipher the manuscript, but this has also been unsuccessful. One hypothesis suggests that it is a herbarium or medical reference guide, indicating plant species with medicinal properties, mixed with elements of astrology and mystical or supernatural aspects common in medieval alchemy. The problem is that the plant illustrations are difficult to identify as real species; many appear fantastical.

Another version suggests that the book might simply be a forgery, and its content may hold no specific meaning. Adding to the mystery is the fact that the illustrations are highly bizarre. It could be a work of speculative fiction, a fantasy creation, or a strange vision of some medieval alchemist.
