During Pitr Paksha, which is a sacred time for ancestral remembrance rituals, there is a tradition of performing Shraddha. It is believed that performing Shraddha, Pindadana, and Tarpana on these days brings peace to the souls of ancestors. However, people often question whether they should build a roof or pour a foundation slab at home during the Shraddha days, as well as regarding property registration.
According to scripture experts, building a roof or pouring a foundation slab during Pitr Paksha does not entail any negative consequences. Those who believe that such actions might cause Pitr Dosha are mistaken. One should avoid pouring the roof or foundation only during Panchak, but if the house is under construction, work should not be halted due to fear of Pitr Dosha. It is necessary to maintain the satisfaction of one's ancestors and continue construction, renovation, or roofing without hesitation.
According to Vastu Shastra teachings, roof construction work should begin depending on the sign in which the Sun is located. When the Sun passes through the signs of Leo, Virgo, and Libra, roof construction from the southeast direction should commence. If the Sun is in the signs of Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn, the start of work should be from the northeast (Ishan Kona) direction. During the Sun's transit through the signs of Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries, construction must start from the northwest direction. Whereas when the Sun is in the signs of Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer, work should begin from the southwest direction.
