Porsche has introduced a new version of the PCCM Plus (Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus), its infotainment system, designed to modernize older vehicles while maintaining the original interior aesthetics.
This new unit features backward compatibility and was specifically developed for the 911, Cayman, and Boxster lines manufactured between 2009 and 2016. It is estimated to be compatible with over 300,000 cars from these generations, which the manufacturer considers potential future classics.
The system is available in two distinct configurations, depending on the specific model. One version is intended for the 997.2 generation 911s and the 987.2 generation Boxsters and Caymans, produced between 2009 and 2013. The second version focuses on the 991.1 generation 911 and the 981 generation Boxsters and Caymans, covering the period from 2012 to 2016.
Porsche had previously indicated that the PCCM Plus was one of the most sought-after upgrade options by its customers for several years.
The device features a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen and integrates seamlessly into the vehicle's original electronic architecture. In cars equipped with a multifunction steering wheel from the factory, functions can be activated via the steering wheel buttons, and navigation and audio track data are displayed on the instrument cluster.
One of the major differentiators is the compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which can now be used without cables thanks to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. When the car is stationary, the system allows viewing YouTube videos, subject to local legislation in each country.
For greater customization, the driver has the option to select the body color of their Porsche to display in the virtual car shown on the screen. Furthermore, the package offers oil temperature and pressure readings on the dashboard computer, speed limit alerts based on maps, and navigation using satellite imagery. The Scenic Roads function suggests panoramic routes with a higher number of curves, ideal for leisure driving enthusiasts.
In the Boxster and Cayman models, which have a mid-engine, the infotainment system complements the parking sensor, transforming previous audible warnings into a visual representation of obstacle distance on the screen.
The PCCM Plus also incorporates a dual radio tuner, Bluetooth streaming capability with display of artist and song name, compatibility with existing sound systems, and a nano SIM chip slot supporting 4G. Maps receive remote updates via the internet.
The new units are already available at Porsche dealerships globally, and the manufacturer recommends that installation be carried out through its authorized network. Porsche emphasizes that certain functionalities may vary depending on the car's model and configuration, and some services require an active internet connection. The selling price has not been disclosed.
