In the construction of residential buildings, steel rebar is typically used for pouring roofs, as well as for erecting columns and foundations. TMT beams made of iron are utilized for all these tasks. Steel rebar on the market is available at a price ranging from 54 to 66 rubles per kilogram. However, alongside steel, other types of rebar, including BFRP, CFRP, and AFRP, have recently appeared on the market. Below is a description of these materials and their price range.
BFRP rebar, known as Basalt Fiber Reinforced Polymer, is manufactured from natural basalt rocks mined from volcanic lava and polymer resins such as vinyl ester or epoxy resin. The production process involves crushing the natural basalt, melting it at a temperature of about 1400 degrees Celsius. Then, the molten basalt is passed through fine holes to obtain long and strong basalt fibers. These fibers are mixed with polymer resin, pulled from a mold, and heated to take the shape of rebar.
The main advantage of BFRP rebar is its resistance to rot and corrosion, even when in contact with water or moisture. Therefore, it is used in the construction of ports, sea walls, and bridge decks where salt and moisture rapidly destroy steel. Rebar made from this material is durable, and its cost ranges from 140 to 300 rubles per kilogram.
CFRP rebar consists of carbon fiber reinforced with polymer. This composite material gives carbon fibers exceptional strength, stiffness, and high tensile strength. The polymer resin, such as epoxy, serves to securely bind the carbon fibers, protecting them from external influences and impacts. Such rebar is used for strengthening buildings, constructing bridges and roads, as well as reinforcing slabs, beams, and columns. The average price of CFRP varies from 1000 to 2500 rubles per kilogram.
