After years of anticipation, the mobile payment service Apple Pay has officially launched in India. This launch provides users of iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch with a new way to make contactless payments both in stores and online.
The launch began with exclusive support for Axis Bank credit cards operating through Visa and Mastercard networks. Users can add their cards to Apple Wallet and use Apple Pay at partners and on websites that support this service.
In corporate news, the drama at Tata Sons is noted to be escalating. Venugopal Shrinivasan, a member of two Tata Trusts and Tata Sons itself, approached the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner requesting an investigation into the Fund's governance structure. Shrinivasan had previously stated serious management irregularities in the Funds and their connection to the commercial enterprise Tata Sons, sending a corresponding letter to the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner.
In the mobility sector, Simple Energy, a manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, raised ₹1,750 crore in a Series C funding round. This marks the third largest round in the growing E2W sector. The round was led by the Family Office of Dr. Arokiasmavi Velumani's family, along with Simple Energy founder and CEO Sukhas Rajkumar and co-founder and CFO Ankit Gupta, with participation from HNI Amit Mishra from Bengaluru and Haran Family Office.
Furthermore, Inox Clean Energy, which deals in renewable energy, submitted project documents to the market regulator SEBI to raise up to ₹10,000 crore through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). According to the Red Herring Prospectus filed on Tuesday, the company is launching the largest private IPO in the renewable energy sector in India. The ₹10,000 crore offering includes a fresh equity placement of up to ₹8,000 crore and an Offer for Sale (OFS) of ₹2,000 crore from promoter Devansh Jain.
Other developments include the opening of the American local commerce platform DoorDash's talent hub in Hyderabad on Wednesday, marking its first office in India. The company is starting operations with 500 specialists and plans to grow its workforce to over 3,000 people within the next two years, according to a PTI press release.
In sports, Vithya Ramraj demonstrated outstanding results at the Asian Games 2026, winning gold in the women's 4x400m relay, silver in the mixed 4x400m relay, and bronze in the 400-meter hurdles. For the bronze medal in the 400m event, she finished with a time of 54.75 seconds, breaking the Indian national record, which had been held by athletics legend PT Usha for 42 years.
