The Treasury Department released a statement informing that financial sanctions have been imposed on ten individuals accused of participating in a fraudulent scheme.
According to Washington, this network, whose leaders operate in Venezuela and Mexico, uses malicious 'software' to withdraw funds from ATMs located in the United States. The money obtained is subsequently used in money laundering operations and transferred to Tren de Aragua.
The penalties include the freezing of assets and property of the sanctioned parties within the US, as well as a ban on any type of commercial transaction with them.
It is worth noting that Tren de Aragua had been categorized by the Trump administration last year as a terrorist organization due to its involvement in drug trafficking destined for the US.
Additionally, in June, the group's leader, Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, died during a coordinated operation between Venezuelan and US forces in Bolívar State, located in the South American country.
