A twin girl, diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, also known as progeria, passed away on Wednesday in Boa Vista, Brazil.
Elis Lima Carneiro, who was only five years old, was the twin sister of Eloá, who also had the same health condition diagnosis. According to g1 information, it is believed that they were the only twins in the world affected by progeria.
The family shared the sad news through a social media post made by the girls' brother and caregiver, Guilherme Lago. He expressed his grief, saying: «Today Elis rests with the Lord. It is very difficult because we did not want this to happen, but we cannot be selfish either. I think the Lord was very good to us, and I am sure that everyone was impacted by Elis's life, by Elis's story, and this is not the end. Today we say goodbye with much affection».
The girls gathered a large community of followers on social media who followed their daily lives. The family used Instagram, where they had over a million followers, to publish videos about the children's growth and also to advocate for individuals with rare syndromes.
It is important to note that Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome has the effect of impairing development and causing accelerated aging.
