Among Chinese brands that began operations in Brazil in 2025, Omoda & Jaecoo is the second with the highest sales growth, trailing only Geely. To boost this commercial volume, the company introduced a new compact SUV called the Jaecoo 5.
This model is available in two configurations: Comfort and Prestige. Both use the same full hybrid powertrain shared with the Omoda 5. The starting prices are set at R$ 154,990 for the entry version and R$ 179,990 for the top-of-the-line version.
After selling out the first batch of 3,600 units, the selling prices will increase by R$ 5 thousand. This price increase also represents the difference compared to equivalent versions of the Omoda 5, which offer more equipment and a sportier design.
Although classified as a compact SUV, the Jaecoo 5 has dimensions that approach those of mid-size SUVs: 4.38 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, 1.65 meters in height, and 2.62 meters between axles. Its trunk holds 410 liters, placing it in the segment average.
Unlike other Chinese brands, Omoda & Jaecoo opted for a full hybrid (HEV) system for its entry-level models. This technology does not allow for fully electric driving but ensures low fuel consumption in urban environments and caters to consumers who do not have infrastructure for installing home chargers.
The Jaecoo 5 integrates a 1.5-liter turbo engine with direct injection, generating 135 hp, with an electric motor producing 204 hp. Together, they produce a total of 224 hp and 30.1 kgfm applied to the front wheels. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 7.9 seconds.
According to INMETRO methodology, fuel consumption reaches 15.5 km/l in the city and 13.7 km/l on the highway. Although these figures are slightly higher than those of the Omoda 5, it still lags behind the Toyota Yaris Cross. However, the Chinese duo compensates for this with superior performance.
The Comfort version of the Jaecoo 5 presents a very competitive cost, comparable to mid-range compact SUVs equipped with 1.0 turbo or 1.5 naturally aspirated engines. However, to achieve this price, it omits certain features present in the higher versions of its competitors.
The Comfort version includes a standard 9-inch multimedia center, digital dashboard, six-speaker audio system, six airbags, rain sensor, rear camera, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, automatic headlight activation, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, laminated front side windows, and rear sensor.
The top-of-the-line Prestige version adds soft-touch finishes on the dashboard and front doors, synthetic material upholstery on seats and steering wheel, full-LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, 13.2-inch multimedia center, 50W wireless charger, 12V socket in the trunk, Sony-tuned sound system with eight speakers, ADAS package, front parking sensor, rear seat armrest, soft-close glove box, rear reading light, electric trunk opening, and power-adjustable mirrors.
In contrast, the Jaecoo 5 Comfort has halogen headlights, a rigid plastic dashboard, fabric-upholstered seats, and an unclad steering wheel. Additionally, its digital dashboard is LCD, non-configurable, and lacks a trip computer; its aesthetic resembles motorcycles. To check consumption and partial odometer readings, the multimedia center must be used.
Currently, the Jaecoo 5 is available at dealerships, offering a 7-year warranty for the vehicle and an 8-year warranty for the battery.
