Australian scientists created anti-corrosion coating that releases inhibitor upon onset of corrosion

Materials scientists from Australia have developed a new anti-corrosion coating based on a combination of three different types of structures. This coating combines polymer micelles, metal-organic frameworks, and silicon dioxide.

This combination of components ensures the stability of the coating itself and allows it to release an inhibitor precisely when a change in acidity occurs, signaling the start of the corrosion process.

The researchers noted that thanks to this coating, its protective properties were maintained for 39 days when exposed to salt solution. Furthermore, the calculated corrosion rate was reduced by six hundred times.

The results of this work were presented in the scientific journal Small Science.
