Systematic work is underway in Tashkent to create specialized zones intended for the safe pick-up and drop-off of students. Currently, this system covers nine educational institutions in the capital.
Initially, such zones operated near two schools—School No. 5 and School No. 42. In addition to these, new sites have been developed near Schools No. 110, No. 89, No. 300, No. 154, No. 280, No. 195, and No. 64. These locations are equipped with temporary vehicle parking spots, appropriate road signs are installed, and necessary markings have been applied.
The main objective of this project is to bring order to traffic during peak hours, both before the start of lessons and after their completion, as well as to minimize uncontrolled stops of vehicles directly in front of school buildings.
This methodology is known in global practice by the terms 'Kiss & Ride' or 'Kiss & Drop' and is used in countries such as the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as in CIS states. Experts continue to study the effectiveness of the organized zones' operation and are preparing improvements based on the specifics of the traffic situation on individual streets. The experience gained will be used to further expand the network of such zones in other parts of Tashkent.
