The first meeting of the Working Group of Uzbekistan and the European Union on investment, financial, and technical cooperation within the framework of the Global Gateway initiative took place in Tashkent on September 29. The discussion covered the practical implementation of the EU's investment package of 12 billion euros for Central Asia.
Discussion of Global Gateway Projects
The Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan reported that the parties focused on implementing the Global Gateway investment package, which was announced by the European Union at the Samarkand Summit in April 2025. The meeting reviewed progress in joint projects covering energy, water resource management, transport, and digital communication.
Furthermore, the agenda included issues of cooperation in climate and critical raw materials. Special attention was paid to attracting private capital, as well as European financial and development institutions for joint investment projects.
Participants also discussed opportunities to expand grant support and technical assistance from the EU, including financing programs for the period 2028–2034. At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to transform the Working Group into a permanent platform for coordinating investment initiatives, forming a common project portfolio, and promoting specific initiatives.
