On Wednesday, protests took place in Bhubaneswar by students and representatives of farmers' and youth organizations. These demonstrations were part of a statewide strike in Odisha that lasted 12 hours. The protests were triggered by alleged errors in school textbooks, as well as demands for the resignation of Minister of Education and Mass Education, Nityananda Gonda.
The organization NNKS stated that over 1700 errors were found in recently published textbooks for government schools. In turn, NYCS claimed that the number of errors exceeds 2000 in books for grades one through eight. Examples cited included mentioning the Nilgiri range as being located in Jharkhand, and using a photograph of the Karnataka assembly instead of the Odisha assembly. Furthermore, the organizations accused that the scientist Isaac Newton was described as a pilot.
