American researchers completed the world's first prospective observational study and found that stereotactic radiosurgical capsulotomy can significantly reduce symptoms of treatment-resistant major depressive disorder.
Furthermore, the results of this study demonstrated that this operation does not cause any neurological disorders in patients undergoing it.
The data obtained were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology ASTRO 2026 and simultaneously published in the scientific journal International Journal of Radiation Oncology.
