China won the overall title for gold medals at the 48th WorldSkills competition, which concluded in Shanghai on Sunday evening. This marks the fifth consecutive time the country has taken the leading position in this event.
The Chinese delegation secured 41 gold medals, 11 silver medals, four bronze medals, and six Distinction Medals across all 64 disciplines. Thanks to these results, China ranked first in both the overall gold medal count and the overall medal count and points sum of groups. This success represents China's best achievement at the WorldSkills competition.
This time, China participated in all 64 disciplines for the third time, sending 71 participants across six sectors: transport and logistics, construction and building technologies, manufacturing and engineering technologies, information and communication technologies, creative arts and fashion, and social and personal services.
The Chinese team in CNC milling received its sixth consecutive championship title. The teams in bricklaying and fashion technology also won their fifth consecutive championship title. The teams in electrical installation work, electronics, and autonomous mobile robotics won their fourth consecutive title.
In the railway transport technology competition, participant He Xiaoman won the prestigious Albert Vidal Award, the highest award at WorldSkills, marking the third time China has received this award.
He stated: 'I am very excited and proud. I never expected to win the highest award.' She added that she hopes her achievement will inspire more young people to join the railway transport sector, which is a key industry in China.
The WorldSkills competition, held every two years, is considered the leading global competition for professional skills. The current event took place from September 22 to 27 and attracted 1385 participants from 68 countries and regions.
Seven disciplines debuted at the competition, including railway transport technology, unmanned aerial vehicles, and software testing, reflecting new industry trends and changing requirements for professionals.
At the closing ceremony, the WorldSkills flag was officially handed over to Aichi Prefecture, Japan, which will host the 49th competition in 2028. Alongside the competition were the WorldSkills Conference 2026 and the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 Exhibition.
