According to IOL Sports, Eric Tinkler and Alexander Latiffe are among the coaches being considered by Durban City in search of a replacement for Khalil Ben Youssef.
Tinkler's name quickly became one of the main contenders after the South African coach left the Ghanaian giant Asante Kotoko on Monday. Kotoko confirmed that Tinkler requested release from his contract for personal reasons, ending his short tenure after four matches in the Ghanaian Premier League.
This departure came at an interesting time as Durban City is looking for a new head coach following Ben Youssef's dismissal on Saturday. The Tunisian coach was sacked after only seven Betway Premiership matches, with one win, four draws, and two losses.
Despite the departure, Tinkler managed the team in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they defeated Rukinzo 3-1 on aggregate over two matches. Tinkler is familiar to the Durban City management, as he was previously associated with this position even before Ben Youssef's appointment in June. His availability provided the club with another option.
Latiffe is also mentioned in the list of coaches under consideration, and the club is expected to evaluate several candidates before making a final decision. The search for a coach is taking place while City participates in the CAF Confederation Cup, and they require a coach with the appropriate CAF qualification to lead the team in continental competitions.
SABC Sport reported that Ernst Middendorp has also become a candidate; the German remained a club consultant during Ben Youssef's tenure. City does not plan to return to domestic matches until October 13, when they will face AmaZulu, giving the club time during the international break to finalize the appointment.
Meanwhile, Tinkler could quickly return to the Betway Premiership after his unexpected exit from Kotoko. Although reports already link him to work at Durban City, IOL knows that his name is not the only one under consideration, and Latiffe is also part of the process as the club weighs its options.
