Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) held negotiations with the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem regarding an agreement to purchase eight new electric high-speed trains. These discussions took place at the InnoTrans-2026 transport technology exhibition held in Berlin.
This marked the first participation of the Uzbek railway company in the InnoTrans event. The delegation was headed by Hikmatulla Rakhmetov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Board.
According to the agreements reached with Hyundai Rotem, each new train set will be equipped with a separate VIP capsule-type carriage. The parties also agreed on the modernization of two of the latest carriages of existing high-speed trains.
The plans involve replacing business class seating in these carriages with VIP seats equipped with tables, and this modernization will be carried out in every train set. The final configuration of the new trains, including technical specifications and seating capacity, will be determined during the preparation of technical documentation.
Separately, Uzbekistan Temir Yollari held discussions with China's CRRC Corporation Limited. The project for establishing a service center in Uzbekistan for repairing and maintaining locomotives at Uzbekistan Temir Yollari industrial facilities was discussed. A project for manufacturing modern freight wagons designed to operate on various gauges was also considered. Furthermore, technical support for new trains and the acquisition of locomotives were discussed.
During the meeting with the European Commission, representatives of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari spoke about international cooperation and the development of the country's railway network. Petris Ustubs, Director for Asia, Central Asia, and the Pacific, expressed the EU's readiness to support the development of Uzbekistan's railway infrastructure.
The European direction was also a subject of discussion with the administration of Serbian Railways. The parties examined the possibility of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari participating in future projects for upgrading Serbia's main railway lines.
Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and Deutsche Bahn concluded agreements on sending Uzbek specialists for professional training. The companies also agreed on joint research and development in the railway sector.
As part of InnoTrans-2026, the Uzbek delegation also met with Huawei and other technology companies. The main topics were the digitalization of the railway sector and the implementation of innovative solutions.
Following negotiations with international partners, Uzbekistan Temir Yollari announced its intention to expand cooperation in the areas of rolling stock modernization, development of service infrastructure, personnel training, and digital transformation of the railway sector.
