Iran-Uzbekistan Trade Volume Reached $280 Million in Five Months
According to IRNA, citing the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization, Rahmatollah Hormoli noted an increasing trend in trade interaction. As part of this process, the ministries of agriculture of Iran and Uzbekistan organized a delegation to Uzbekistan consisting of 120 people, headed by the Minister of Agriculture, and including activists and experts in aquaculture, mechanical engineering, and processing industry.
Hormoli characterized Uzbekistan as one of the most densely populated countries in Central Asia and emphasized that Uzbekistan ranks second among Iran's export destinations in CIS countries, possessing significant potential for strengthening trade ties with Iran. Furthermore, agriculture remains a priority sector in the development of bilateral trade.
The Iranian commercial attaché in Uzbekistan specified that the trade turnover reached approximately 280 million dollars in the first five months of this year. Despite regional circumstances and their impact on Iran's trade activities, trade exchange with Uzbekistan has not decreased. He expressed hope that the trend of trade growth will continue in the coming months due to the further organization and hosting of trade delegations and the strengthening of ties between economic entities of both countries.
In addition, the attaché described ensuring food security as another important area of cooperation. He mentioned that the Agency for Food Security has been established within the structure of the Government of Uzbekistan, whose goal is to increase and guarantee food security in areas such as livestock, poultry, quarantine, and food products, which could form the basis for developing specialized and commercial partnerships between Iran and Uzbekistan.
Giving examples of Iran's agricultural export advantages to Uzbekistan, he pointed out that currently, goods such as citrus fruits, apples, kiwi, pistachios, dates, dairy products, dry milk, and fish feed mixture are exported from Iran to Uzbekistan. Given the market potential of this country, there is an opportunity to expand and diversify Iran's export basket.
Hormoli also touched upon the topic of technological cooperation, noting that Iranian companies are implementing about 30 projects in Uzbekistan worth a total of 770 million dollars in various fields, including agriculture. This indicates the substantial potential of the Iranian private sector to enter the Uzbek market.
In conclusion, the Iranian commercial attaché in Uzbekistan believes that holding specialized meetings and strengthening interaction between officials and economic actors of both countries in various fields, especially agriculture, paves the way for developing mutual cooperation and increasing the volume of trade between Iran and Uzbekistan.
