The Director General of the Port and Maritime Organization reported a more than 90 percent increase in the volume of unloading of essential goods in the northern ports. He also noted that due to the transition of port and customs operations to a 24-hour regime, the time for unloading ships and the time cargo spends in port terminals and at the country's transit borders has been significantly reduced.
According to IRNA, Mohammad Shakibi-Nasb stated on Monday during a meeting with journalists. He explained the recent steps taken by the Port and Maritime Organization aimed at developing capacities and increasing the productivity of the country's ports, with a special focus on the northern ports.
He added that in the field of warehousing, besides operational capacities within the ports themselves, more than 55% of warehouse space is located in zones around the ports under customs control. Thanks to the effective use of these facilities, the process of accumulating and storing goods has become simpler.
The Deputy Minister of Transport and Urban Development emphasized that the organization responds to the requests of economic entities. He mentioned that one of the main problems for traders was ensuring strategic equipment in the northern ports, so some loading and unloading equipment was moved from southern ports to the northern regions of the country.
Addressing the organization's serious approach to increasing productivity, he highlighted that by coordinating and collaborating with the Customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, working hours and processes for unloading, loading, and dispatching goods were planned based on 24-hour operation. This synergistic measure has had a significant impact on improving the operational capacity and productivity of the ports.
