Iranian weightlifter Ali Alipour won the gold medal in the men's 95 kg category at the 2026 Asian Games held in Nagoya.
Alipour demonstrated impressive performance by achieving a snatch of 180 kg and a clean and jerk of 218 kg, totaling 398 kg. This result allowed him to confidently win the Asian Games title and set a new world record.
Nurgissa Adiletuly from Kazakhstan won the silver medal with a total of 394 kg, while Yi Tu from China secured the bronze with also 394 kg.
Alipur's success contributes to an increase in Iran's medals in weightlifting at the Games. Previously, Reihaneh Karimi became the first Iranian woman to win a medal in weightlifting at the Asian Games, taking bronze.
Meanwhile, Mir Mostafa Javadi, who competed in the men's 85 kg category, could not reach the podium that day, finishing fifth after an unsuccessful attempt to win a medal.
Thus, this marks Iran's eighth gold medal at the Games so far.
