Proteas captain Temba Bavuma commended his team's resilience and tactical discipline after Proteas secured a convincing victory over Australia on Pink Day at the DP World Wanderers Stadium on Sunday, thereby clinching the series win.

Bavuma set the tone early on, scoring a brilliant, anchoring century (103), managing to absorb early pressure and lay the foundation for David Miller's explosive 142 runs. The captain acknowledged that initially, the conditions demanded patience before the innings gained momentum.
After the match, Bavuma stated: 'I think this is another good performance by the team. It was a bit difficult at the start, but we managed to overcome that issue and achieve such a total. It was incredible, and David inspired us.' Defending 365/9, South Africa faced an early onslaught from the Australian side, yet Proteas remained composed under pressure, using key breakthroughs to regain the initiative.
Bavuma noted: 'They maintained their composure in the first 10 overs. We knew they would put pressure on us, but we understood that a couple of wickets would put them in an unfavorable position. So, it's another collective team performance.'
Reflecting on his own contribution, Bavuma was pleased to have turned his early appearance on the field, following Aiden Markram's dismissal on the first ball, into a decisive contribution to the victory. He said: 'It's nice to contribute with the bat. Coming here right after the first ball, I was able to take my time and build partnerships... It's always great to contribute to the team's cause.'
A key factor slowing down Australia's chase was the influence of spin, with Markram providing crucial balance alongside Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortune on a surface that showed unexpected turn. Bavuma called Markram's role 'very valuable,' noting that he turned the ball away from left-handers. He added that the conditions provided much more spin than expected, and how the spinners complement the attack with bowling is magnificent. He concluded: 'Today, we probably didn't have bowlers throwing over 145 km/h, but we were able to rely on local knowledge.'
The victory reinforced South Africa's proud tradition on Pink Day, which is held to support breast cancer awareness, in front of a fully packed crowd in Johannesburg. Bavuma emphasized: 'It's fantastic. The guys in the dressing room talked about how much the support excites everyone. It's always an event we look forward to playing for a good cause. And it seems we played quite honorably in pink attire.'
