Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his German counterpart, Johann Wadefuhl, held a brief meeting on Saturday at the UN headquarters in New York. This meeting was the first of its kind since the start of Russia's special military operation in 2022.
Lavrov told journalists that the German side requested this meeting at the 'very last moment' on Friday. The meeting between the two ministers took place before Lavrov's speech at the General Assembly.
When asked whether the meeting on Saturday could be considered a resumption of dialogue between Russia and Germany, Lavrov stated that Wadefuhl merely reiterated his official public position. Lavrov also noted that 'nothing new came from this initiative (of the German) foreign minister.'
