Banks warn customers about the need to pay EMIs in advance before three-day strike

In connection with the upcoming three-day general bank strike starting on Monday, all banks are sending warnings to their customers. Banks advise making advance payments for any loan (EMI) to avoid potential problems during the shutdown period.

The United Forum of Banking Trade Unions (UFBU) announced a strike that will last from Monday to Wednesday. As a result, all banking services may be disrupted between October 28 and 30. The strike was called over several demands, the priority among which is the introduction of a five-day work week. Currently, bank employees receive days off on the second and fourth Saturdays, while other Saturdays are working days.

Due to this strike, customers across the country may face difficulties accessing services at branches. Before the strike, Bank of India appealed to its customers with a special call not to allow disruptions in timely EMI payments during the strike.

Bank Of India advised customers to make EMI payments in advance, before the three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled for September 28–30, and to maintain sufficient funds in their accounts. In a message sent to customers on Sunday, BOI asked them to pay EMIs early or keep funds in their payment accounts to avoid any delays, noting that payments could be made through digital channels.

The same message indicated that UFBU proposed a three-day strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. Bank of India stated that it would make every possible effort to provide necessary banking services during the strike and asked customers to complete important banking operations before the specified dates. During the strike, it is recommended to use ATMs, Cash Recycling Machines (CRM), Business Correspondent (BC) points, and digital channels.

Not only Bank of India but also the country's largest state-owned bank, SBI, has advised its customers on the need to plan their next steps. State Bank of India issued an advisory notice urging customers to complete important transactions before the start of the strike.

Its announcement on the SBI website stated that UFBU had announced a strike from September 28 to 30. To ensure customer convenience, uninterrupted connectivity was provided through ATM/ADWM, CSP, Yono SBI, and other digital channels, and customers were recommended to carry out important operations in advance.

There is a possibility of problems arising in bank branches across the country during the strike. This is especially true for services that require physical visits to the bank branch and manual execution of banking procedures. Customers may face difficulties depositing and withdrawing cash at the counter, updating passbooks, and other branch-related services. Furthermore, cheque processing may take longer. Also, new bills may be unavailable at branches during the strike.

Regarding the issue of declaring a Saturday holiday, a special high-level commission will be formed under the IBA and UFBU. The commission will strive to find a compromise acceptable to both banks and customers.
