The new terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in the Saudi city of Jeddah began phased operations on Sunday, September 27. This measure is being taken to cope with the ongoing growth in passenger traffic at this aviation hub, which regularly receives travelers heading to nearby Mecca for Umrah or Hajj.
According to Jeddah Airports, three international airline flights—Wizz Air, AJet, and SalamAir—have been moved to the newly launched Terminal 4. The company added that the transfer of other airlines' flights will occur gradually according to the terminal's transition plans.
Terminal 4 covers a total area of 97,000 square meters and has the capacity to accommodate up to 15 million passengers annually. It is equipped with modern facilities and advanced operating systems, including a dedicated area for group registration of pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah. The company noted that such amenities help increase the airport's efficiency and capacity.
In 2025, King Abdulaziz International Airport reached an all-time high in annual passenger traffic, serving 53.4 million passengers. According to the Saudi Arabian Aviation Program, which is part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, the airport's target is to serve over 90 million passengers annually.
Phased Transition Schedule to the New Terminal
The phased transition to the new terminal will continue next week according to the following schedule:
- Monday, September 28: Fly Jinnah will move from the Hajj and Umrah Terminals (B3), and Nesma Airlines will relocate from the North Terminal.
- Tuesday, September 29: Akasa Air flights will be transferred from the Hajj and Umrah Terminals (B3).
- Thursday, October 1: SyrianAir and Pegasus flights will move from the North Terminal.
- Saturday, October 3: Azerbaijan Airlines and Tunisair flights will be relocated from the North Terminal.
Jeddah Airports specified that the transition plan involves relocating all foreign airlines currently operating from the North Terminal, as well as some foreign airlines operating from Terminal 1 and the Hajj and Umrah Terminals, based on operational needs.
The company stated that this will allow for the redistribution of operational traffic among various airport facilities, thereby increasing its capacity and simplifying travel and passenger movement procedures once Terminal 4 is fully ready, including its technical, service, and operational capabilities.
